Somewhere Inside the American Dream
Somewhere Inside the American Dream is a narrative photography series that takes place in a strange version of the American countryside. The project follows a girl who is left alone after refusing a proposal from her boyfriend. Feeling unsure about stepping into the life that was being offered to her, she says no. He drives away and leaves her in the middle of the landscape with no way to get home.
As she begins walking through the countryside, the world around her starts to feel unfamiliar. She wanders through fields, along roads, and across wide open landscapes, slowly losing her sense of direction and sense of self. What begins as a normal place starts to feel strange and surreal as she spends more time alone in it.
The series follows her as she moves through these spaces and begins acting in unusual ways — interacting with the environment, sitting in empty landscapes, and drifting through moments that feel both quiet and unsettling. The countryside becomes a kind of in-between world where she is stuck after making a life-changing decision.
Through cinematic compositions and staged scenes, the project builds an eerie atmosphere where the idea of the American dream becomes something unfamiliar. The images explore the feeling of being caught between two possible lives, leaving the character wandering somewhere inside the American dream.
